Ella

Our veranda at the guesthouse, all to ourselves.

And our cute little room.

We wandered through the town of Ella, which is perched high on a ridge called the Ella Gap.  Sun and misty clouds alternated on this blessedly cool afternoon. We found the quaint little railway station, a throwback to colonial times. The British built this line in the 1800's to transport plantation crops of tea and cinnamon.

Old locomotives are still standard here. Diesel smoke makes its way into the open carriage windows along with the fragrances of the countryside.

Snack time!  Coconut roti with the local honey. No, on the plate.  The beautiful woman is MY honey.

The misty valleys around Ella. Good walking country here.

Egg hoppers and Khottu Chop-Chop for dinner.

Egg Hoppers are bowl shaped roti with a nice coconut tang.  Wonderful devices for scooping up hot chili or curry.

Another great day in Sri Lanka drew to a close. Nestled snug in our bed we listened to the night symphony and drifted off.  Tomorrow, exploring the Hill Country by train.

As an aside on the weather, a huge rainstorm is dumping as I write, drumming a staccato cacophony on the metal roof. It is almost deafening. So cool!!
